Privateer Press Khador Man Hunter

For my Latets Update I've go the Khador Man Hunter from Privateer Press. Still need to figure out better photography skills. as this isn't quite cutting it. Figure was pretty easy to run through and get him done in a just a few days. Blood effects came out well (on the miniature if not on the picture) These were done the same time as the Rhyass post below. The Skin Tones aren't quite up to par in the image but on the figure I'm not embarassed by them. Yet again this is another high qaulaity table top piece for myself.

I've nearly got the Tau Commision finished off, Just a handful of units and vehicles left. And right around the new year I expect to be able to get back to the painting I want to do.

Hey where did all this dust come from?

It has been brought to my attention that perhaps I haven't been updating as oftenas as I should have. At least I've gotten 1 out of the last 10 or so updates done early... Right? To make up for it here is my first Praetorian Ferox. Still trying to figure out camera angles on things with spears that point directly towards the field of view that really screw up the focusing. I used images of Ligers (Lion - Tiger Hybrid) to get ideas for the stripes on the beast. He came out pretty good, A Solid table Top quality miniature.

Next Update Sometime before 2009 I Swear. I'll drop some Photos of the last Khador Man hunter I painted up. I've got a few more of these to go to finish of my army, but the first one looks pretty slick.

Rhyas, Sigil of Everblight

Yeah yeah yeah. Apparently swearing I WILL update does not actually work so well. Actually every time I do so it seems to guarantee that I will not update for about a week. So I'm going to go ahead and state I'm not updating for the next two weeks. Tonight I present Ryhass the Sigil of Everblight a Legion of Everblight miniature from Privateer press. I finally did figure out the blood effect methodology and the key is to NOT use the wet pallet, very important. Sadly she is not conducive to my current photography capabilities.

Right now the chopping block is full of home improvement projects and finalizing a Commision job for a Tau Army. Luckily I'm touching up most of the miniatures and only need to fully paint a hand full of them. As they get finished off I'll use them to practice my unit photography skills.

Stuck in the land of 3.2% beer

Sent away on business travel to Utah for a little over a week, no photo updates until next Friday when I get back to the home computer, where the files are. Going a little nuts out here as there's been little for me to do work wise. Last time I was out here I was running 12-13 hour days straight for two weeks, and really that's what I'd rather be doing while on travel. If I'm going to get dragged away from the family I might as well be busy.

Rather than piddling a few hours here and there, spending more hours on my laptop following up on e-mails, than doing what I was brought out here to do. Oh well even though I was "given the day off" today I did manage to enjoy some of the local attractions. I was hoping to get up a nice mountain hiking trail, but only managed to meander around Antelope Island near Salt Lake City. I did grab a few pictures while hiking and I'll post them up once I can get them off of the camera (Probably late next week)

Privateer Press Khador Field Gun

In my attempt to keep the updates and photots regular I'm shoing off one of my recently completed gaming pieces. The paint job on these guys isn't anything too special just a good solid table top quality paint job.

Unfortunately one of the local game stores, even further BFE Virginia then where I'm at, went belly up and was liquidating their entire stock. They were a pretty good game shop and I'd dropped quite a bit of cash there in the past, especially on thier Plastcruct building materials.

Being the good gaming individual I am and had to assist them with clearing out thier stock and bought up a decent amount of Khador and Trollbloods for my Horde/Machine games. Also I'm preparing to run an Iron Kingdoms Role Playing Game, so I'm picked up a few pieces specifically for that as well.

New Painting Challenge - Reading Comprehension FTW

For some reason Peterdita from the Wyrd miniatures boards challenged me to incorporate this face onto a miniature. The Tattoo and veins on the green skin will be especially difficult but I think I'll be able to pull something off.

In other news it appears that my original plan for the Rotten harvest painting comp will not be possible. Since the rules specifically prohibit discussing what you are going to do for the competition publically prior to submission. I'm fairly certain NOBODY has read my entry, previously but the letter of the rule was violated. I wonder if I can come up with something else for the comp

Nyss Sorceress

For this weeks miniature post I present the Nyss Sorceress from Privateer Press' Iron Kingdoms line. Our monthly RPG group recently started up a Savage Tides Campaign and Beautiful (which will be the proper name for my wife on the this blog from here on out) wanted to run a druid.

All in all I'm pretty pleased with how this figure turned out. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the cloak. The shape of the cloak components lend themselves to leaves or possibly feathers and scales. In the end I decided to go with leaves and even tried to free hand the leaf veins, which really didn't turn out to well.

Positive Aspects
Mid Rift: I think her flesh tones, and the free-hand belly button turned out pretty well. There's not a lot of flesh on the figure but I think I did a pretty good job on the mid rift and fingers.

Non-Metallic Metal: This is probably my best attempt at non-metallic painting to-date. I had not yet tried NMM since the class with Jeremie. He stated he painted True Metallics and Non-Metallics exactly the same, but he only went over true metallics during the class.

Negative Aspects:
The face: the way this figure was sculpted the face i shidden behind much of the hair. The end look on the sculpting is nice, but it's difficult to paint. Especially the eyes.

Witty Title Goes Here

Alright switching things up, even though no one is reading this thing and is currently just for my own edification. Updates will be on Tuesday and Friday, even though I plan on posting Monday and Thursday night. And there will be some sort of posting on each of those days. Even if I have to with hold photos of finished work to keep some sort of posting going. Additionally all my photos will get loaded up on here first excepting online competition miniatures. Those will get posted to the appropriate location and then loaded up on here.

Speaking of which I currently entertaining some thoughts on the Rotten Harvest painting Comp from WYRD Miniatures. I've been hanging onto a Hasslefree piece for a few years now and finally thinking I need to execute my plan on it for the Rotten Harvest. I'll be using Gen on her altar with Jade dancing on it luring men to thier sacraficial death. For the basing I'm still considering a few options. I'd like to get a few canedabras at the corners of the pentagram on the Altar but I can't find any quality ones. Lance and Laser used to have a set but I can't find it in thier catalog now. Sadly I can't sculpt to save my life and I feel like I need to do all the work on a competition piece myself. Instead I'm going to use a piece of wood to serve as a dias and cut out steps leading up to the dias in the side of the wood. Then use some putty to sculpt flagstones on the steps and floor of the dias. I've got about 4.5 weeks to do this.

Yeah This will end up succesful

03098: Astrid Female Chronicler

This is how I spent my weekend. After the class with Jeremie I was excited to keep painting and whipped this up over Saturday and Sunday. Not sure how many hours I poured into her but probably more than 10 hours. The color pallet is far and away beyond what I would normally work on but for the most part I think it came together pretty well.

I was particularly pleased with my little freehand on the back of the guitar until I downloaded the images from the camera and discovered the paint chip. I'll have to fix that up sometime this week. All in all I'd say the immediate results from that class are pretty apparent and I'm eager to do some more.

Who started Blogging?

So I start Miniature Defacement indicating that I'll post two days a week and then stay silent for the 2nd week this is in motion?! Yeah well last week I took part in a painting course taught by Jeremie Bonamart Teboul and had a really good time. The whole class worked on the Avalonian Bust from Kraken editions Artefactory line. I should have a picture up of him later this week as I wasn't concerned with finishing him during the class.

I learned a lot during the class, especially the color and light theory. It's all things I knew but nothing that I had applied in that fashion before. Additionally Jeremie was bluntly honest in his appraisal of your work, something which really helps while learning. After spending 30 hours last week working on painting and learning Jeremie's style I'm very much eager to keep painting.

03128: Sela Windsprite, Elf Pirate

I picked this little elf up as soon as I saw her about a year and a half a go. I finally got around to painting her in the last week or so. My good friend Vic sculpted the out gassing and bullet discharged from the gun which this angle doesn't show off the effect very wel.

Originally I was trying to go for a beach base for her with a treasure chest. Sadly my PVA glue water effects methodologies didn't work out as expected and I was left with some sort of "marsh base". This is the first time I tried to to do the photography without the Macro settings. Just set up the camera about 16" away and used a larger image resolution. The Depth of field is better, almost too good as you can see the weave in the backdrop fabric.

I didn't notice the scraped off paint on her hair line until blown up in front of my face while I was cropping the image. So I'll fix that up, re-pose her and then update some time later.

Privateer Press Supreme Aptimus Zaal

First mini presented is a recent warlock I did for my Skorne Army. I always try to walk a fine line between doing a real nice paint job and getting my forces done. Zaal ended up on the "nicer" side of things. Certainly not competition worthy but I'm certainly proud of the way he turned out

Still need to figure out the photography aspects. My Digital camera can't get above an f-stop of 8.0 and I think that might be giving me some depth of field issues on the Macro-photography set up. This photo was done with an F-stop of 8 and a shutter speed of 1/3

This is a completely unprocessed mini. I usually use an image manipulation program to alter the light and dark levels, resize, and crop but since I'm running this off my ancient laptop it can't quite manage the image manipulation program demands.

New Blog Ahoy

I decided to start up my own painting blog. Recently on the Disorderlies Painting Blog I've managed to post a new Fig about once a month. I'm hoping to manage posting at least one photo a week, preferably at least one finished fig every other week. If nothing else this will force me to actually take more photos of my work and hopefully get more practice and better end results going
